Gloucester’s Festive Parade and lights switch on was a magical and unique night, with special guest, cult TV star, Keith Chegwin helping to launch the festive celebrations.
The parade wound through the city streets on Thursday 15th November. This spectacular procession was led by the one and only Father Christmas in a pony driven sleigh, accompanied by five year old Elysia Byrne from Longlevens, who is The Citizen’s ‘Face of the Floods’.
Movement restrictions imposed because of the blue tongue outbreak meant that Santa’s reindeer were unable to travel to Gloucester for the parade.
Other special guests in the procession included Councillor Harjit Gill - The Mayor of Gloucester, Miss Gloucester - Dani Turner, Gloucester Rugby stars - Ryan Lamb and James Simpson Daniel, Severn Sound’s Black Thunder’s, Vaslav - BBC Radio Gloucestershire’s spoof Slovakian lorry driver, and local resident Dick Sheppard who is well known for his charity Christmas lights display at his home in Stroud Road.
Music came from The Red Hot Santa’s, The Gloucester Samba Band and the Gloucester Gladiators Scout Band.
